Golden Bastet Statue | Handcrafted Egyptian Replica

Bastet — daughter of Ra, sister of Sekhmet, wife of Ptah — was the cat-headed goddess of protection, joy, motherhood, and the home. She is one of the oldest deities in the Egyptian pantheon, worshipped from the Second Dynasty onward. Her great temple stood at Bubastis (Per-Bast) in the Nile Delta, a sanctuary famed across the ancient world for its gardens, processions, and the festivals held in her honour.

Where her sister Sekhmet was the lion of vengeance, Bastet was the cat of the household — fierce when defending her own, gentle in companionship. The original bronze and gilded statues of Bastet show her in human form with a cat's head, holding a sistrum or papyrus sceptre. Cats themselves were sacred to her; harming one in ancient Egypt was a capital offence.

This is a hand-finished reproduction made in Cairo by Egyptian artisans. The figure is sculpted in polyester resin and gilded with gold-leaf paper, reproducing the rich gold-on-painted finish of the dynastic bronzes.
