Meidum Geese | Handcrafted Egyptian Replica

The Meidum Geese is sometimes called "the Mona Lisa of ancient Egypt." It was painted around 2600 BCE on the wall of the mastaba tomb of Nefermaat and Atet at Meidum, during the early Fourth Dynasty — the same generation that built the first true pyramids. Six geese, in three matched pairs, feed on grass in a quiet pastoral scene. Even four and a half thousand years later, the species of each bird is still identifiable from the artist's brushwork.

What makes the panel remarkable is how it captures observed nature: feather patterns, posture, the alertness of the heads, the subtle differences between the pairs. This level of naturalism is centuries ahead of most ancient art. The original panel — now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo — is one of the most celebrated images to survive from the Old Kingdom.

This is a hand-finished reproduction made in Cairo by Egyptian artisans. The figures, palette and proportions are carried over from the original wall painting. Sculpted in low relief on polyester, painted by hand. Substantial wall presence at 85 cm wide — ready to mount or display on a long shelf.
