Tutankhamun Golden Mask | Handcrafted Egyptian Replica with Wooden Base

The most famous artefact of ancient Egypt — the funerary mask of Tutankhamun, recovered by Howard Carter in 1922 from the boy-king's tomb in the Valley of the Kings. Worked in solid gold inlaid with lapis lazuli, carnelian and obsidian, the original was placed directly over the king's mummified face to guarantee his transformation into a god and his safe passage to the afterlife. The mask shows the king in the nemes headcloth flanked by the vulture Nekhbet and the cobra Wadjet — the protective deities of Upper and Lower Egypt.

This is a hand-finished reproduction made in Cairo by Egyptian artisans, mounted on a wooden display base. The nemes headdress, the uraeus at the brow, the false beard, and the broad collar are reproduced from the original. The piece is finished in a gold-leaf effect over coloured polyester resin.
